Kyoto, Japan – MURP Professor Andy Rumbach delivered a lecture on urban planning and disaster resilience at Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan, on January 20. Andy was invited to lecture by the Global Survivability Studies Program, an interdisciplinary college grounded in the study of sustainability and community resilience.
The lecture was part of the “rising leaders” seminar at Kyoto University, and was attended by faculty, graduate students, and several members of the local community. The talk focused on urbanization and geographies of disaster risk in peri-urban Kolkata. “It was a great experience,” said Andy. “The talk was followed by a 45 minute conversation and Q&A session, with interesting comments and parallels drawn to experiences in other cities in South and Southeast Asia.”
